Microsoft launched its MSN Video Player online video-on-demand service in the UK yesterday.

Following the success of the BBC's iPlayer and Channel Four's 'on demand' service, Microsoft is launching its own free online video player.

Viewers will be able to watch a range of programmes, including those from the BBC such as Hustle and Hotel Babylon, on the MSN video player, from tomorrow.

Microsoft says that it will allow viewers to enjoy full series of their favourite shows from comedies like Peep Show and Dead Ringers to documentaries such as Sahara and dramas like Cutting It.

The launch of MSN Video marks a return to online VOD by Highfield, who headed up the abortive Kangaroo joint venture between the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV.

The service can be accessed via Microsoft’s Silverlight technology, which provides adaptive bit-rate streaming to match the connection speed over which the video is being accessed.

The player has 1,000 hours of content in total, made up of full length and clip material. Go check it out here
