The next version of Microsoft Windows is going to include some serious changes, and not just under the hood. The release of Windows 8, which will be forthcoming some time this year, gets rid of the traditional Windows icons and menu buttons, and uses a series of interactive tiles similar to those currently used in the Windows Phone 7 OS.

When you use your programs, or even social networking connections with friends, you will find them placed as tiles that are scrolled through from side to side, in a similar manner to the way you scroll through apps on a typical smartphone. The Windows 8 OS will also feature an app store, which is becoming more common for operating systems recently.
