Vice President of the Gartner Group, David Mitchell Smith, discussed the situation, stating that "It's true that most of the disruption caused by cloud computing relates to enterprise [operations] and IT. But it's also been pretty disruptive to the vendor community as well." Like many others in the industry, Smith reasons that a large shakeout will happen within the next two years, and a small number of cloud vendors will emerge that will cover both segments of the industry.
Cloud computing and cloud services have become a very disruptive force for the enterprise, and more recently, the vendor landscape is experiencing the same symptoms. With so many companies getting into the cloud vendor landscape--over 2000 SaaS companies so far--it's getting hard to keep up.
