Microsoft Turns to the Wind to Boost Eco Cred

Using wind-powered data centers, Microsoft hopes for an output of  110MW with their new wind project in Texas  in move that displaces coal from supply chain.

Microsoft has announced that they’ve signed a 20-year deal with the Keechi project and they move forward to close the gap with other tech giants by agreeing to buy up all of the electricity produced by a Texas wind project to power one of its data centers. The 20 year deal to purchase all of the power produced by a 110MW wind project, 70 miles north-west of Fort Worth, Texas will begin construction early in 2014 however initially the new windfarm will not supply all of the data center’s power.
